News & Events

Link Engineering is a leading designer and manufacturer of inertia brake dynamometers, which are globally recognized as an industry standard. Applications range across the entire vehicle line including passenger car, commercial truck, off-road, military, aerospace, and railway.

Inertia Dynamometer

To support manufacturer requirements to shift testing capacity from the test track to the test laboratory, systems are tightly designed to reproduce actual conditions experienced on the vehicle. Shaft-type inertia brake dynamometers are designed for durability, wear, performance, and NVH testing applications. Typical add-on sub systems include environmental control chambers, static torque/low speed motor assemblies, DTV and residual drag measurement systems, water and dust spray, as well as thermal imaging.

NVH Brake Chassis Dynamometer

Chassis Dynamometer

Chassis type dynamometers are offered in both single and dual axle configurations. NVH chassis dynamometers isolate the vehicle from the dynamometer and surrounding facility to offer capability to analyze vehicle noise and vibration characteristics. Setups typically are integrated within full- or hemi-anechoic chambers for NVH testing and thermally insulated chambers for environmental testing. These high precision systems allow for full vehicle testing under controlled environmental conditions.

Control System

All systems are controlled through the ProLink operating system. The advanced features of the ProLink software package offers operator-dependent control or fully automatic, unattended operation. All primary operating functions are performed at the dynamometer station including selection of test parameters, control modes, display of pertinent data, monitoring of all test functions and execution of desired test sequences.

Dynamometer simulated inertia systems permit the replication of braking performance for a wide range of vehicle sizes. Inertia Simulation allows for precise vehicle inertia points to be tested via the drive motor system by adding or subtracting energy from the rotating system. The advantages of dynamometers with inertia simulation include less upfront cost (fewer discs), less overall time to change the mechanical inertia discs, increased flexibility to change inertia values during the test procedure, and higher accuracy through the elimination of machine losses. Inertia simulation also enables replication of dynamic changes in effective inertia as experienced in hybrid braking applications.

In addition, LINK has developed the capability to simulate regenerative braking conditions in hybrid and electric vehicles with RegenSim. Click here for more information regarding RegenSim.
