Passenger Car, Light Truck, and SUV
Performance:
Performance tests are useful to assess friction behavior, brake output, or stopping distance characteristics under varying speed, pressure, vehicle loading, brake system conditions, deceleration, temperature, braking history, and environmental conditions. Other vehicle components or sub-systems including tire, transmission, engine cooling, fuel economy and suspension can also be analyzed. Several protocols are available as part of original equipment or aftermarket programs.
- FMVSS, CMVSS, ECE, ISO, SAE, JIS and others: Standards related, but not limited to, performance characteristics such as stopping distance, effectiveness and fade.
- Client Directed or Developmental Procedures: Performance characterization protocols developed and executed in cooperation with clients to address specific testing needs. LINK can follow either an existing documented test protocol or design or develop a test plan to meet customer test objectives.
NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness):
Test method development for NVH investigations are a continuously evolving activity for the brake community worldwide. LINK actively supports numerous programs regarding the wide spectrum of vibration and frequency levels, ranging from low frequency pulsation induced by DTV (Disc Thickness Variation) or corrosion, to high frequency squeal events.
- SAE: Industry standard NVH specifications relating to passenger car noise evaluations.
- Title 40, US Code of Regulation / CMVSS-1106: US and Canadian government motor vehicle safety standard regulating vehicle noise emissions.
- Client Directed or Developmental Procedures: NVH testing conducted to address specific client requirements. LINK can use environmental control capabilities to support client directed test protocols. Vehicle components including windshields, door glass, firewalls and other body structures can be tested either on the vehicle or in the laboratory using sound transmission-loss testing suites, hemi-anechoic or full-anechoic test chambers and chassis dynamometers.
Wear and Durability:
Wear and durability testing methods are used to simulate extended or extreme service conditions. Repeatable testing protocols, on the road, test track or in the laboratory, provide an effective means to investigate the influence of temperature, speed, distance traveled or loading on the specific wear of vehicle components.
- SAE, JASO and others: Laboratory testing conducted to assess wear and durability characteristics for passenger vehicle applications.
- Client Directed or Developmental Procedures: Public road, test track or laboratory testing conducted to address specific client requirements. Examples include Los Angeles City Traffic and other traffic routes such as Detroit, Mexico City, Shanghai, and Mojacar.
ABS and Stability Control:
Test tracks are utilized to provide a controlled environment in which the performance and limitations of ABS and stability control systems are evaluated. LINK’s capabilities in engineering, performance drivers, instrumentation, and compact data acquisition systems can support system design, development and validation.
- FMVSS-126, ECE, ISO: Proving grounds testing conducted in accordance with government and international regulations or standards.
- Client Directed or Developmental Procedures: Road, test track or laboratory testing conducted to address specific client requirements.
Component and Bench:
Link can apply relevant design and testing expertise to evaluate components or sub-systems using a controlled laboratory environment and the ProLink suite of control and acquisition software configured to create custom test systems as well as existing designs.
- SAE, JASO, ASTM: Cyclic corrosion, fatigue, strength and durability testing configured and performed according to industry specifications. Component characterization testing including seal roll-back, seal performance, fluid consumption among others.
- Client Directed or Developmental Procedures: Laboratory testing using our in-house fixturing and test set-up expertise to create customized test plans.
B.E.E.P., Certification and Type Approval:
Successful completion of certification and type approval testing is required for compliance demonstration to government or other regulatory agencies during the last phase of product development and prior to product launch. LINK is accredited to perform certification and type approval testing for passenger car systems and components.
- B.E.E.P™: Brake Manufacturers Council voluntary certification program for aftermarket friction materials for passenger cars and light duty trucks using approved brake dynamometers and industry endorsed SAE recommended practices.
- FMVSS-135, FMVSS-105 / CMVSS-135, CMVSS-105: US and Canadian government motor vehicle safety standard regulating the performance of passenger vehicle brake systems and components.
- ECE-R13: European type approval regulating the performance of passenger vehicle brake systems and components.
- ECE-R90: European type approval regulating the performance and minimum requirements for replacement friction materials using full vehicle, dynamometer and physical properties test methods.
- Title 40, US Code of Regulation / CMVSS-1106: US and Canadian government motor vehicle safety standard regulating vehicle noise emissions.
Physical Properties:
Measurement and analysis performed on sample-level test materials such as noise shims, friction materials, rotors, drums, fluids, etc.
- SAE, JASO, ASTM: Compressibility, shear strength, natural frequency and other specifications developed to measure physical characteristics.
- Client Directed or Developmental Procedures: Client specific or internally designed protocols based on variants of the above listed methodologies.
